The Melbourne Airport MEL/YMML is also called the Tullamarine Airport and is located about 25 kilometers north northwest of Melbourne. It is second to the Sidney Airport in terms of traffic. There are four airports that serve Melbourne but it is the only international one. In spite of that fact, most of the flights going into and coming out of the airport are domestic flights.
The Melbourne Airport is 132 meters in elevation and it has two asphalt runways. One is 3657 meters and the other is 2286 meters. The airport serves over 30 airlines including international, domestic and freight airlines. The three domestic terminals are T1 which is used by Qantas and Jetstar, T3 which is used by Virgin Blue and Regional Express, and T4 which is used by Tiger Airways. Passengers on international flights board and deplane at Terminal 3.
Travelers making there way to and from the airport have several options. Taxis are available at three ranks located outside terminals 1, 2, and 3. Since touting is illegal at the airport, it is up to the traveler to go to the ranks and hire a taxi. Buses are available to many parts of Melbourne and SkyBus offers express service to the city centre all day and every day. There are six car rental agencies at the airport: Avis, Budget, Europcar, Hertz, Redspot, and Thrifty.
The airport can be accessed through the Tullamarine Freeway which makes the drive from the Central Business District to the airport a 25 minute drive. This road has a toll and travelers may need to acquire a CityLink pass. A route that does not have a toll is the Western Ring Road. If you are using GPS, the location of the airport is Centre Road, Melbourne Airport. The exact location is Latitude 37°40´24.1" South and Longitude 144°50´36.2" East.
